What are you looking for?

Hey tricounters,

Welcome to tricount, your go-to platform for managing group expenses effortlessly without any monthly fees!

In this topic, we’ll review all the questions you may have while using the new tricount app.

Is the Free Credit Card a credit card?

Yes, it's a free credit card with no risk of debt accumulation and no hidden charges. The card is virtual, meaning you can instantly use it on your phone with Apple Pay or Google Pay. Additionally it’s a prepaid card, meaning you’d need to top it before you can pay with it.

This allows you to benefit from the same perks and worldwide acceptance you’d expect from a normal normal credit card, without the possibility of financial burden.

Sign up for your Free Credit Card in 5 minutes, following the instructions mentioned here.

What are tricount’s main features?

  • Collaborative: All participants have the ability to add their own expenses and synchronize with the group to see the most recent updates;

  • Multi-platforms: The app is available on both iOS and Android;

  • Simple & complex expenses: The app makes it easier to split bills unevenly, accommodating both simple and complex expenses;

  • Perfect precision: The app ensures perfect precision in expense splitting, except in cases where rounding up is necessary due to indivisible expenses;

  • Synchronization on our servers: The app synchronizes data on our servers, providing a backup for your information.

How accurate is tricount?

tricount has 1 cent accuracy (0.01). You could therefore expect a 1 cent difference.

Example: If you split €100 by 3 users, one of the users will receive €33.34, while the others receive €33.33

What are the totals at the bottom of the screen?

There are 2 totals:

  • My Total - sums up all expenses that impact you

  • Expenses total - sums up the group's expenses

Note: Reimbursements aren't part of those totals

Why does the app ask me to repay something to someone who has never paid anything for me?

tricount provides solutions for reimbursement that aim to simplify the process of settling balances. It might seem odd when tricount suggests you repay someone who hasn't made any payments on your behalf. To comprehend this, let's delve into the workings of tricount.

tricount handles reimbursements in two steps:

  • tricount determines who has overpaid and who has underpaid based on the expenses recorded.

  • Following that calculation, tricount proposes a method to evenly distribute these balances.

The goal is to limit the number of transactions between participants.

Why are my tricounts out of date?

tricount keeps your group up-to-date by saving all changes in our system but sometimes, it may need a quick manual update. If you don’t see the latest entries right away, you can easily refresh to get the latest balances by following the steps below:

  1. Open the tricount you want to update.

  2. Go to Expenses (or Balance) and scroll to the very top of the list.

  3. Swipe down until you see the refresh icon/spinner, then release.

  4. Wait a moment—when it’s done, you’ll see the latest expenses and an Updated just now timestamp.

💡 Pro-tip - if your group still looks out of date:

  • Make sure you’re at the top of the list. Pull-to-refresh won’t trigger from the middle.

  • Switch between Expenses ↔️ Balance, then swipe down again.

  • Check your internet connection, then try to refresh once more.

  • Fully close and reopen the app, then pull-to-refresh

What is the difference between expense, transfer and income?

  • Expense - The amount spent by a participant for the group, or a subset of the group.

  • Transfer - The action of money transferred between participants of a given tricount.

  • Income - The amount that is received by a participant for the group.

Why do I have to identify myself in a tricount and how can I change my selection?

The app asks you to identify yourself the first time you become part of a tricount. By default, the participant that you select will then be proposed to you as the payer each time you add an expense. The Total Expenses displayed at the top of the transaction list will also relate to this person. To change "who you are" in a tricount, simply follow these steps:

  1. Go to 🏠 tricounts

  2. Tap on the tricount

  3. Tap “Edit”

  4. Select "Me" on the tricount's configuration screen

How does the Free Credit Card work with deposits?

If you want to use your Free Credit Card for a deposit, such as for a rental car or hotel room, the merchant will accept your card just like they would a traditional credit card. Since no credit is used when making the payment, the entire retainer of the deposit will be deducted directly from your account at the time of purchase.

This means you need to have the available balance in your account when paying the deposit. Once the deposit is released, you'll then receive the money back in your account and you won't risk having a negative balance or falling into debt.

Is my Free Credit Card widely accepted?

Credit Cards are widely accepted in most European countries. However, they aren’t accepted everywhere in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Not all grocery stores support Credit Card payments.

What happened with my Premium subscription?

With the new app, tricount Premium has been deprecated. You now have access to plenty of cool features and the usual main ones to use the app without any additional or hidden costs.

Which Premium features were deprecated?

The following tricount Premium features will no longer be available:

  • Sorting expenses

  • Export tricount in CSV and PDF

  • Personal mode

  • Custom Splits (planned for a future update)

My tricounts disappeared after the update. What now?

In case you've noticed that your tricounts are missing after updating to the tricount version 8.0, you can resolve this by logging into your account via the Profile tab. If this doesn't fix the issue, another solution could be to request the participants to share tricounts with you once again.

How can I change my email address?
